Thornhill boot camp owner reveals 5 Carb Strategies that work and his Halloween costume

Heyyyyyyy what is up my friend! Hope you are doing awesome…if you are reading this right now…I’m pretty sure you are 😉

I just had a crazy Halloween weekend with my homies and no…I don’t have any drunk stories to tell you this time. I had a crazy time and got a lot of comments about my Halloween costume..kids hide your eyes and for the easily offended turn away (although if you are reading this blog I’m pretty sure yo have sense of humour)…

I think next year I’m gonna go as either a caveman or Domo….

It was pretty awesome…and honestly…I just have fun wherever I go. Life’s too short to not have fun with it. It’s one of my life principles to always have fun no matter what I am doing and that includes my nutrition and fat loss programs.

That’s why I preach “Cheating” on your diet and also my Thornhill boot camp…because they are fun and they work!

and when I cheat…I eat a TON of carbs. I usually stay away from them during the week but if I do eat them…I eat them strategically to make sure it doesn’t increase the size of my belly.

For girls…usually “moment on the lips leads to a lifetime on the hips”…but it doesn’t have to be that way.

So I made this quick…easy to read…guide to carbs. It’s kinda like I made notes because…I did exactly that. I kinda did a brain dump of what I do with carbs and it came out like this.

This information is quick, to the point and easy to apply to your life immediately:

Never Eat Carbs Alone
* Carb spike your insulin and blood sugar. When insulin is spiked you cannot burn fat.
* Proteins and fats slow digestion making it less likely to have an insulin response.
* You can eat fruit alone as the fibre slows digestion

Don’t Drink Your Carbs
* Keep your liquids to non calorie drinks like water and green tea
* Worst drinks are soda’s and those Starbuck Frappucino things

No Carbs Before or During Your Workouts
* You want your body to use stored fat as energy not food energy
* Fasted training actually gives you more energy
* Stay away from energy drinks

Eat Your Carbs After Your Workouts
* Why this works: Because your muscles will absorb a lot of the nutrients you eat right after training.
* Carbs will be less likely to be stored as fat.
*Eat carbs within 2 hours of training and taper the carbs the rest of the day.

Eat Starchy Carbs During the Day and Fibrous Carbs at Night
* When it gets later make sure your carb sources are from fibrous sources like broccoli, cauliflower and greens.
* Front load your carbs to earlier in the day.

Those are my best carb strategies to help you get into incredible shape. Leave a comment below and let me know what you thought of this post or any carb strategies you use.

Sounds great Dan, I will give it a try. I especially will try fasting before my morning workout. I always thought you had to have some fuel for your body’s workout.

  2. You are actually able to perform better on an empty stomach when working out in the morning. It’s your bodies survival instinct of a flight or fight response that gives you the adrenaline to perform better in the gym. You also are able to burn more fat that way.

You say to stay away from energy drinks, why?

    Hey Dan,

When you say no carbs before your workout, how long before your workout is ok? I work out after work and want to make sure I am making the most of my workout.

    Thanks,

  6. Try to keep your carbs to 2 hours before your workout. Or else when you do your workout you will be burning the carbs and not the fat.

  7. They give you unnecessary calories that will be burnt off first in the workout and they also dehydrate your body making it harder for your body to burn fat.
